Volleyball Falls to Ferrum in Five Sets

FERRUM, Va.- The Randolph volleyball team took on Ferrum on the road on Friday night. The WildCats took the first two sets of the match but the host Panthers rallied to claim the next three as they outlasted the 'Cats 3-2 (25-22, 25-22, 19-25, 21-25, 15-17).

Randolph's overall record evens at 6-6 overall and is 0-2 in ODAC play. Ferrum improves to 5-6 and 1-2 in conference play.

The WildCats had leads of 16-12 and 20-16 in the first set. Despite the Panthers keeping it close, Randolph was able to stay out in front to win the set 25-22.

Randolph led 12-9 in the second set but Ferrum rallied with five straight points to lead 14-12. The Panthers led 21-20 but the 'Cats were able to out scored FC 5-1 to win by the identical score of 25-22.

Randolph trailed only by two points in the third set 19-17 but Ferrum started to pull away with a 5-0 run to lead 24-17. The WildCats picked up two points but ultimately fell 25-19.

The WildCats trailed early on in the fourth set but rallied to keep it close. Randolph led at one point 16-15 until the Panthers took the lead away with 4-1 run to go ahead 19-17. The 'Cats forced a tie at 19-19 but Ferrum used a 6-2 run to pull away and win 25-21 to force a deciding fifth set.

Ferrum took a 5-2 lead in the fifth set. Randolph received to take leads of 13-10 and 14-11. Despite Ferrum tying the set at 14-14, the WildCats again moved to match point at 15-14. The Panthers, however, notched the three points they needed to overtake the 'Cats and claim the match.

Tahani Villines (Whittset, N.C./Williams) led Randolph with 18 kills to go with seven digs. Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) added 11 kills and four digs. Jayda Domenech (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) notched a team-high 19 assists and five service aces while chipping in nine digs. Izzy Allen (Williamsburg, Va./Peninsula Catholic) finished with 17 assists and seven digs. Gracie Fulton (Staunton, Va./Riverheads) totaled 21 digs and eight assists. Madison Daniels (Warrenton, Va./Liberty) contributed 12 digs.

Randolph is back on the court tomorrow as it travels to Salem to face Roanoke. Match time is at 1:00 p.m.
