FERRUM, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team played its ODAC opener on Wednesday afternoon as it faced Ferrum at Penn-Roediger Field. The WildCats scored just one goal and it was all that they needed as Randolph defeated the Panthers 1-0.
Randolph's record improves to 2-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference. FC falls to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the ODAC.
Following a throw in near the Ferrum goal, the ball was attempted to be cleared by a Panther defender in the 24th minute. It instead found its way out to Sampson Blakey (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna). Blakey blasted a shot into the back of the net and in to give Randolph a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers had a pair of shots in the first period that glanced off the right post. The Randolph defense held Ferrum to just one shot on goal for the entire game. Overall, the WildCats led in total shots 15-7 and 5-1 in shots on frame.
Carter Kelly (Carrollton, Va./Smithfield) made just one save in goal for the WildCats. His counterpart for Ferrum, Dillion Ghosh, had four saves.
Randolph hosts its first game in over three weeks on Saturday evening as it welcomes Randolph-Macon to WildCat Stadium. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
