ST. MARY's CITY, MD.- The Randolph volleyball team made a midweek trip up to Maryland to face St. Mary's of Maryland on Wednesday. The Seahawks defeated the WildCats 3-0.
The Seahawks led 6-2 in the first set and were ahead by as much as 11-4. Randolph rallied to close to 14-12 and were within three points of tying at 21-18 but St. Mary's rattled off four straight points to win 25-18.
The WildCats led in the second set 10-8 but the Seahawks used a 5-0 run to go ahead 13-10. Randolph kept pace with St. Mary's and got the score to 23-20 but the Seahawks scored three straight times to win 25-20.
With the set tied at 5-5 in the third frame, St. Mary's 7-1 run gave it a 12-6 lead. The lead grew to nine points at 20-11 and Randolph closed the gap to five points at 22-17 but the Seahawks tallied three points to win 25-17.
Brooke Murdock (Evington, Va./Timberlake Christian) led in kills with six, had three solo blocks and one assisted block.
Jayda Domenech (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) had 11 digs and five assists.
Randolph hosts its home opener this Saturday afternoon as it welcomes Trinity Washington University to Giles Gymnasium. The match will start at 3:00 pm following Trinity Washington's match with the University of Lynchburg.
