STAUNTON, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team made a midweek trip up to Mary Baldwin on Wednesday afternoon. A scoreless first half gave way to a total of three goals scored in the second period as the WildCats came out on top 2-1.
Randolph's win pushes their overall record to 4-0. It is the team's best start since 2018.
Both teams had five shots in the first half. In the 54
th minute, the Fighting Squirrels Lauren Lasher was given a yellow card inside of the penalty area which granted the WIldCats a penalty kick.
Alana Ellis (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) was able to convert as Randolph took a 1-0 lead.
Randolph had possession in the offensive end in the 58
th minute. Ellis would find
Carlynne Wright (Lynchburg, Va./Jefferson Forest) for the goal at 58:16 to give the 'Cats a 2-0 advantage.
Mary Baldwin scored at 79:27 to make it a 2-1 contest. The Fighting Squirrels had one more shot on frame for the remainder of the period that was turned away by
Abby Gilbert (Virginia Beach, Va.) as Randolph came away with the victory.
Randolph had a slight edge in total shots 15-14 and led 10-7 in shots on goal. Both teams had three corner kicks each.
Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice) got the start in net and made two saves. Gilbert came in the second half and registered four saves.
The WildCats travel to Meredith on Saturday. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
