Men’s Soccer Falls to Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- A day after their scheduled match was postponed because of weather, the Randolph and Virgnia Wesleyan men's soccer team finally got together on Sunday morning for their non-conference match. The game was scoreless after the first half of play but the Marlins scored twice in the second half as they won 2-0.

The Marlins led in shots 8-3 in the first half. Three of Virginia Wesleyan's shots came on frame and were stopped by WildCat keeper Carter Kelly (Carrollton, Va./Smithfield). A shot by VWU's Josh Condit hit the left post in the 20th minute.

VWU made good on its second shot attempt of the second half as Zach Bittler scored an unassisted goal at 52:53. He scored a second time in the 67th minute to give Virginia Wesleyan a 2-0 advantage.

Randolph had a chance at a pair of goals with one at 65:16 and another at 78:26. Both attempts hit the left post and crossbar.

Overall, Virginia Wesleyan led 21-5 in total shots and an 8-2 lead in shots on goal. Kelly finished with six saves in goal for the WildCats.

A total of 43 fouls were called during the game with 11 yellow cards and one red card issued.  

Randolph travels to North Carolina Wesleyan on Wednesday. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
