ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.- The Randolph men's soccer team had its game with North Carolina Wesleyan delayed because of lightning in the area three times on Wednesday. Following the second delay of the first half, the two teams were finally able to play an uninterrupted match and it was the Battling Bishops who came out on the winning end 2-1.
N.C. Wesleyan led 1-0 less than three minutes into the first period before the second delay was called. A shot by
Tucker Leverone (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) in the 11
th minute glanced off the right post. Randolph would eventually tie the contest up at 1-1 on a
Brian Kuhl (Giessen, Germany, James Monroe) goal in the 24
th minute.
The score remained tied until the 62
nd minute when N.C. Wesleyan's Justo Esponda-Neuss scored to give the home team a 2-1 advantage. Kuhl had a pair of shots on frame in the 81
st minute that were stopped by Battling Bishops keeper Rafael Farina.
Hordy Ndambo's (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) shot attempt went over the left side of the goal in the 85
th minute for Randolph's last attempt to tie the game up.
Randolph led in total shots 12-8 while teams registered five on frame.
Carter Kelly (Carrollton, Va./Smithfield) had three saves in goal for the WildCats while Farina finished with four saves.
The WildCats return to action next Wednesday as they start ODAC play at Ferrum. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
