HARRISONBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team began its season on the road on Friday as they faced Eastern Mennonite in a non-conference matchup. The WildCats netted one goal on the night and that was all they needed as they defeated the Royals 1-0.
Randolph dominated in shots 12-1 in the first half with just one shot coming on goal.
Joanne Torres (North Chesterfield, Va./Meadowbrook) had a look at a goal in the 34
th minute but her shot glanced off the left post.
The second half was a different story as EMU led in shots 5-4. Randolph was able to capitalize on its second shot attempt as
Madison Booker (Norfolk, Va./Granby) scored off an assist by
Alana Ellis (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) to give Randolph a 1-0 lead in the 54
th minute. Eastern Mennonite had one shot on frame which came in the 58
th minute that was stopped by WildCat goalkeeper
Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice HS).
Overall, Randolph led in shots 16-6 with a four 4-1 edge in shots on goal. The WildCats led in corner kicks 8-2.
Bossi tallied just one save in goal. Aja Laun and Anna Filipowski both had one save each for the Royals.
The two teams will meet again on September 27 in Lynchburg in an official ODAC match.
Randolph hosts its home opener next Wednesday against Carolina University. Game time will be at 6:00 p.m.
