LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team hosted Carolina in its home opener on Wednesday evening at a warm and humid WildCat Stadium. Randolph led early in the first half as it would go on to win 3-1.
Madison Booker (Norfolk, Va./Granby) scored the first goal of the game and her second of the season in the 9
th minute as the WildCats led 1-0. Just over four minutes later,
Alana Ellis (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) took a free kick and passed to
Joanne Torres (North Chesterfield, Va./Meadowbrook) when then sent it back to Ellis who booted it into the back for the net for a 2-0 WildCat advantage.
The Bruins got on the board at 33:30 as Natasha Marian sent a long shot to the left back corner of the net and past WildCat keeper
Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice HS).
Both teams played solid defense in the second half as Randolph held on to its 2-1 lead. In the 83
rd minute,
Hailey Coleman (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) sent a pass through a couple of Bruin defenders and right to
Sterlyn Woodward (Madison, Va./Madison County) who deposited the ball past Carolina keeper Kloe Totel and in for the final goal of the contest.
Randolph led 14-8 in shots and 8-3 in shots on frame. Corner kicks were in Randolph's favor 4-2.
Bossi did not have a save in one half of play.
Abby Gilbert (Virginia Beach, Va.) came in the second half and stopped two Bruin shot attempts. Totel finished with four saves on the night.
The WildCats host Salem College this coming Saturday afternoon. Game time will be at 2:00 p.m.
