MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Randolph softball team completed its time in Myrtle Brach at the FastPitch Dreams Tournament on Wednesday. The WildCats won both of their games as they defeated SUNY Poly 8-6 and Salem State 11-2 in five innings.
Against the WIldCats of SUNY Poly, the game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning.
Lacey Lucado's (Buchanan, Va./James River) sac fly plated a run and
Kylie Stark's (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) RBI triple made it 2-0 Randolph.
SUNY Poly answered with a three-run fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. The WildCats tied it up on a
Dominique Irving (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) RBI groundout.
SUNY Poly regained its lead with a two-run fifth. Randolph scored four runs in the bottom portion of the inning to go ahead 7-5.
Both teams scored once in the sixth inning. In the seventh, starting pitcher
Emily Morris (Esmont, Va./Monticello) retired the side 1-2-3 to secure the win for the WildCats.
Morris pitched a complete game six-hitter. She allowed six runs (four earned), walked one, and struck out one.
Stark was 2-for-4 with a pair of triples and two RBI. Irving was also 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, one run scored, one RBI, and a stolen base.
Jenna McDermott (Townsend, Del./Middletown) was 2-for-2 with three runs scored.
Kieran Wrighter (Glen Allen, Va.) batted 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
In the Salem State game, Randolph jumped all over the Vikings in the first inning. McDermott had a one-out triple. Stark reached on an error and advanced to second base that allowed McDermott to score. Morris then hit her first career home run to score two runs.
Charlize Taylor's (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) RBI single made it 5-0 WildCats.
The 'Cats scored one run in the second inning on McDermott's RBI single. Three more runs came across in the third inning. Taylor had another RBI single in the fourth inning. Stark's sac fly plated one run and
Mackenzie Eggers' (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) double scored another run.
In the circle,
Olesia Walch (Raleigh, N.C./St. Thomas More Academy) pitched all five innings. She allowed three hits, two runs (one earned), walked one, and struck out a season-high seven batters.
McDermott was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and a run batted in. Taylor was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run scored. Irving was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in. Morris hit 2-for-4 with a home run, two stolen bases, three runs scored, and two RBI.
Randolph returns home to host Sweet Briar on Tuesday afternoon. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m.
