LEXINGTON, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team played its penultimate game of the season on Wednesday evening as it traveled to Washington and Lee. Strong shooting by the Generals led them to a 97-75 win over the WildCats.
In the first half, the Generals got out to a 13-2 lead. The WildCats went on a 12-3 run to close to within two points, 16-14, with 13:15 remaining in the half. W&L added to its lead and was ahead by 11 points, 32-21, with 9:10 remaining in the period. The Generals would lead 53-41 at halftime.
In the second half, Washington and Lee led by 15 points, 67-52, with 13:42 showing on the game clock. Randolph's 12-4 run in over three and a half minutes of game time got the WildCats to within seven points at 71-64. It was still just a seven-point deficit for the 'Cats as the score stood at 75-68 with 8:16 remaining. The Generals' game-changing 22-4 run that covered nearly six minutes of game time gave them their biggest lead of the night as they would pull away from Randolph.
The WildCats were 32-of-75 (42.7%) overall and 7-of-25 (28%) in three-point attempts. The Generals made just over 50% (33-of-65) of their field goals and 47.2% (17-of-36) of their three-point shots. W&L controlled the glass 44-38.
Jerry Goodman (Suffolk, Va./Portsmouth Christian School) led the WildCats with 15 points on 7-of-16 shooting.
Kyle Ferguson (Lynchburg, Va./Heritage) added a season-high 14 points to go with five rebounds.
Landon Wagoner (Martinsville, Va./Carlisle School) chipped in eight points, four rebounds, and three blocked shots.
The WildCats conclude their season on Saturday when they travel to Shenandoah. Game time from Winchester will be at 2:00 p.m.
