WINCHESTER, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team concluded its 2022-23 season on Saturday afternoon as the WildCats faced Shenandoah. The Hornets would defeat the WildCats 88-70.
The teams were neck and neck for most of the first half with neither establishing a significant run. With the score tied at 28-28 with 6:12 remaining in the period, the Hornets went on an 18-9 run to close out the half and led 49-37 at the break.
The WildCats started out the second half on a 7-2 run to cut their deficit to seven points, 51-44, at 17:29. Back to back threes by SU upped their lead to 13 points, 57-44. Randolph was able to close to 11 points at 59-48. Shenandoah went on a 16-5 run to go ahead 75-53 with just over nine minutes remaining. A 13-5 WildCat run made the score 80-66 with 4:23 left in regulation. That was as close as Randolph could get as SU went on an 8-3 run to close out the game.
The WildCats shot 22-of-53 (41.5%) overall and were 7-of-19 (36.8%) from behind the three-point arc. Randolph was 19-of-23 (82.6%) in free throw attempts. The Hornets were 33-of-64 (51.6%) from the field and 14-of-30 (46.7%) in three-point shots. Shenandoah had a slight 35-32 edge in rebounds.
Jerry Goodman (Suffolk, Va./Portsmouth Christian School) scored 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting in his final collegiate game. His 871 total points are ninth most in program history.
Danny Bickey (Beckley, W.V./Woodrow Wilson) added 12 points.
Ryan Davis (Erlanger, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) scored nine points.
Cole Perry (Salisbury, N.C./Jesse Carson) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Hunter Verling (Lake Mary, Fla./Lake Mary HS) finished with seven points and six rebounds.
