VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- The Randolph volleyball team played its final ODAC match of the season on Friday as it faced first place Virginia Wesleyan. The Marlins topped the WildCats 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-16).
Randolph trailed 6-2 in the first set but rallied to close to within two points at 10-8. That would be as close as the WildCats would get as VWU went on a 15-3 run to take the set.
The Marlins went ahead 5-1 in the first set but the WildCats rallied to tie it up at 5-5. Virginia Wesleyan went back ahead 16-8. Randolph went on a run of its own as it went on a 7-2 run to close to 18-15. The Marlins would close out the 'Cats with a 10-1 run to take the set.
VWU got out in front 6-2 in the third set. Randolph kept pace early on but fell behind trailing at one point 22-11. The WildCats had a little rally late in the frame but VWU came out on top 25-16.
Brooke Murdock (Evington, Va./Timberlake Christian) led in kills with eight and had two service aces. Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) and Tahani Villines (Whitsett, N.C./Williams) both contributed five kills each. Sequoyah Sorensen (Millville, UT/Western Albemarle) led in assists with 13 while Jayda Domenech (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) added 11. Madison Daniels (Warrenton, Va./Liberty) led in digs with nine.
Randolph wraps up the regular season tomorrow afternoon with a pair of matches. The WildCats take on Regent at 12:00 pm and Clinton College at 2:00 p.m.
