HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team played its penultimate regular season game on Saturday evening as it took on Hampden-Sydney. The host Tigers scored first in the first half and led going into the second half but the WildCats were able to get the tying goal as the two teams played to a 1-1 tie.
The Tigers' goal came at 21:10 of the first half on a goal by leading scorer Mo Wumpini. Randolph had four shots in the first period with none coming on frame.
In the second half, the WildCats scored on their third shot of second half as Otto Fox (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) fed a pass to Rhajee Scarlett (Atlanta, Ga./Rosewell) who was able to bury it into the back of the net at 62:02 to even the game up.
Hampden-Sydney's first shot of the second half did not occur until the 68th minute. The Tigers had a couple of close chances as Jaques Lavielle's shot attempt went off the crossbar in the 76th minute and an attempt by Wumpini in the 84th minute glanced off the top bar.
Overall, Hampden-Sydney led in total shots 14-9 and in shots on goal 6-3. Corner kicks were in the Tigers' favor 10-5.
Starting keeper Carter Kelly (Carrollton, Va./Smithfield) finished with four saves for the WIldCats. His counterpart for the Tigers, Garrett Hodges, finished with two saves.
Heading into the regular season finale next week, the WildCats find themselves in a three-way tie for the eighth and final playoff spot with the Tigers and Averett.
Randolph hosts Bridgewater Wednesday night at WildCat Stadium. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
