Men’s Soccer Drops Home Contest to Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va- The Randolph men's soccer team faced off against the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday night at WildCat Stadium. The Hornets scored late in the first half and added a pair of goals in the second period on their way to a 3-0 victory.

With the loss, Randolph falls to 4-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the ODAC. Lynchburg improves to 10-1-2 and 4-0-1 in the conference.

The Hornets led in shots 7-1 in the first half but the Randolph defense kept them off balance. It was not until 39 seconds remained in the period when the Hornets got on the board as Benjamin Velasquez scored on a corner kick to give Lynchburg a 1-0 lead.

The score remained 1-0 for most of the second half. In the 83rd minute, a foul and yellow card on Rhajee Scarlett (Atlanta, Ga./Rosewell) inside of the penalty area granted the Hornets a penalty kick. Leading scorer Luke Vega was tapped to take the shot and he converted to put the visitors ahead 2-0. The Hornets scored again in the 85th minute to make it 3-0.

Lynchburg led in overall shots 16-3 and in shots on goal 8-3. The Hornets were granted nine corners to just one for Randolph.

Carter Kelly (Carrollton, Va./Smithfield) finished with five saves in goal for the WildCats. Thomas Viscuso had three saves for the Hornets.

Randolph hosts Washington and Lee this coming Saturday night. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
