LEXINGTON, Va.- The Randolph volleyball team traveled up to the campus of Washington and Lee on Friday night for a late week conference match with the Generals. W&L came out on top as it won 3-0 (14, 25, 14-25, 19-25)
Randolph's overall record drops to 8-5 overall and 0-2 in the ODAC. The Generals even their overall record at 6-6 and are 3-0 in the conference.
In the first set, the Generals tallied the first two points before Randolph tied it at 2-2. W&L got out ahead 6-2. The WildCats closed to 9-7 but the Generals stayed out in front with leads of 15-8 and 19-10. The set stood at 21-14 in W&L's favor and the Generals picked up the last five points they needed to claim the set.
Randolph led 6-5 in the second set before W&L's 7-1 run gave it a 12-7 advantage. The WildCats would get as close as 18-12 but Washington and Lee used a 7-2 run to close out the 'Cats and take the frame.
W&L got out in front 3-0 in the third set but Randolph countered with fourth straight points to go up 4-3. The Generals came back to take the lead back but the WildCats would keep pace with W&L as they eventually led 16-14. Randolph could not build on the lead it established as Washington and Lee used an 8-0 run to go up 22-16. Randolph got to within 22-18 but the Generals outscored the WildCats 3-1 down the stretch to come away with the set and match win.
Brooke Murdock (Evington, Va./Timberlake Christian) led the WIldCats with seven kills and five total blocks. Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) added six kills and two blocks. Jayda Domenech (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) put up nine assists and nine digs. Melody Washington (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) tallied eight assists.
Randolph travels to Hollins tomorrow for another conference match. Game time between the two schools is set for 3:00 p.m.
