Volleyball Defeats Hollins 3-0 for First ODAC Win

ROANOKE, Va.- The Randolph volleyball team faced Hollins in an ODAC match on Saturday afternoon. The WildCats defeated HU 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-16) to record their first conference win of the season.

The WildCats improve to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference. Hollins falls to 2-12 overall and 0-5 in the ODAC.

Randolph got out to a 6-0 lead in the first set and was ahead 13-4. Hollins came back to cut into its deficit as it closed to 15-11. HU could no closer than four points as Mackenzie Woodson's (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate) kill at 24-20 gave the WildCats the win in the set.

Hollins got out in front 2-0 in the second set. Randolph took the lead away but HU rallied to go ahead 9-6. Hollins held a 13-11 lead but the WildCats used a 9-2 run to go up 20-15. After Hollins made it 20-17, the 'Cats outscored HU 5-1 to take the second set.

Randolph had leads of 11-7 and 15-10 in the third frame. Ahead 17-13, a 5-0 run by the WildCats further distanced themselves from Hollins. Randolph tallied the last three points of the set to win the match.

Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) led Randolph with eight kills, six total blocks, and three service aces. Brooke Murdock (Evington, Va./Timberlake Christian) added seven kills as did Nikki Hurt (Cartersville, Va./Cumberland). Tomi-Lauren McGinnis (Ringgold, Va./Dan River) had a team-high 12 digs. Jayda Domenech (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) was just short of a double-double performance with 13 assists and nine digs. Melody Washington (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) added 12 assists.

Randolph travels to Averett on Wednesday. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
