LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph volleyball team hosted Virginia Wesleyan in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday night at Giles Gymnasium. The Marlins defeated the WildCats 3-0 (22-25, 15-25, 12-25).

The two teams exchanged points in the early goings of the first set. With the score tied at 6-6, the Marlins went on a 7-0 run to go up 13-6. Randolph got to within three points at 13-10. Twice Randolph closed to within two points and got to with one point on three occasions. Virginia Wesleyan got the last two points to take the set.

VWU scored the first five points of the second set but the 'Cats used an 8-3 run to tie at 8-8. The Marlins got back out ahead 20-14 and Randolph closed to 20-15 but the Marlins tallied five straight points to claim the stanza.

Virginia Wesleyan jumped out ahead 15-1 in third set. Randolph had a 6-0 run to make it 17-8. The Marlins were too much in the end as they cruised to a 25-12 set win.

Brooke Murdock (Evington, Va./Timberlake Christian) led the WildCats with eight kills. Jayda Domenech (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) put up eight assists while Melody Washington (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) added seven assists. Vivianna Gustin (Virginia Beach, Va./Bayside) totaled 12 digs. Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) laid down four kills and had three solo blocks.

Randolph hosts Regent and Johnson and Wales (N.C) this weekend at Giles Gymnasium. The WildCats face the WildCats of Johnson and Wales at 11:00 am and close with the Royals at 3:00 p.m.
