GREENSBORO, N.C.- The Randolph volleyball team traveled to Guilford on Wednesday for its final ODAC regular season match of the season. The Quakers topped the WildCats 3-1 (25-11, 15-25, 25-17, 25-16).
The first set saw GC lead 6-4 and then break away with an 18-5 run to take a commanding 24-9 lead on its way to the set win. In the second set, Randolph led 7-3 but Guilford came back with an 8-2 run to go ahead 11-9. After briefly losing its lead trailing 13-12, Randolph broke off a 13-2 run to close out the Quakers which included scoring the last eight points of the set.
Guilford got out in front 10-2 in the third set. The Quaker held a double-digit lead at 21-9 but the 'Cats went on an 8-2 run to close to within six points at 23-17. GC, however, got a kill by Cameron Blankenship and a service ace by Hannah Stout to secure the last two points to claim the set.
The Quakers had leads of 9-3 and 17-8 in the fourth set. Kills by Ainsley Simmons (Fincastle, Va./James River) and Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) along with a Guilford attack error got Randolph to 17-11. The Quakers closed out the WildCats in the end with an 8-5 run.
Finnerty finished with a game-high 11 kills hitting .409. She added three solo blocks and three digs. Vivianna Gustin (Virginia Beach, Va./Bayside) led with 15 digs. Jayda Domenech (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) added 13 assists and six digs. Melody Washington (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) contributed 10 assists and four digs.
Randolph concludes its season this Saturday at home against Virginia University of Lynchburg. Match time is at 11:00 a.m.
