Volleyball Falls at EMU

HARRISONBURG, Va.- The Randolph volleyball team took on Eastern Mennonite in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Yoder Arena. The Royals had the upper hand on the WildCats as they won 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-18).

Randolph's record now stands at 9-8 overall and 1-5 in conference play. EMU improves to 6-7 on the season and 3-3 in the ODAC.

The WildCats hung with the Royals early on in the first set as the score stood at 7-6 in Eastern Mennonite's favor. A 9-1 Royals run, however, put the home team ahead 16-7. The WildCats could not get any closer than eight points as EMU quickly went ahead by double digits and easily claimed the set.

Randolph had an early lead in the second set and only trailed by one at 10-9. Eastern Mennonite broke ahead 15-9 but the 'Cats used a 9-3 run to tie the set at 18-18. The Royals used a run of their own, 7-2, to hold off the WildCats and win the frame.

Eastern Mennonite got out to a 5-0 lead in the third set and it grew to 10-3. Despite falling behind, the WildCats battled back as they made it a five-point score at 23-18. The Royals, however, took the win as they picked up the last two points they needed.

Logan Warren (Chesterfield, Va./Steward School) led in kills with five and added two block assists while hitting a team-high .400. Nikki Hurt (Cartersville, Va./Cumberland) added three kills and led in digs with seven. Melody Washington (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) totaled 11 assists.

Randolph returns to Giles Gymnasium on Thursday as it hosts Randolph-Macon. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
