LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph volleyball team hosted Randolph-Macon in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match on Thursday evening. The Yellow Jackets won 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-16).
Randolph's record now stands at 9-9 overall and 1-6 in the ODAC. The Jackets improves to 14-2 overall 7-1 in the conference.
In the first set, the two teams were tight in the early going. Randolph led 10-9 but Randolph-Macon used a 9-2 run to go up 18-14. The Yellow Jackets led 24-18 before the 'Cats rallied to close to 24-22. R-MC got the final point on a kill by Megan Bost to win the set.
Randolph-Macon jumped out ahead 20-4 in the second set and never trailed. Randolph got as close as 23-13 but it was not enough as the Yellow Jackets took the set win.
RM-C led 7-1 in the third frame. The WildCats clawed their way back to make it 12-10. An 8-0 run by the Yellow Jackets put them out in front 21-11. Randolph closed to 21-15 but the Jackets outscored the 'Cats 4-1 down the stretch to take the set and the match.
Brooklyn Finnerty (Lynchburg, Va./Timberlake) led the team with seven kills. Brooke Murdock (Evington, Va./Timberlake Christian) added six kills and four total blocks. Madison Daniels (Warrenton, Va./Liberty) had a team-best nine digs. Jayda Domenech (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) had 12 assists along with six digs.
Randolph competes this Saturday in a quad-match at the University of Lynchburg. The WildCats play Kenyon first at 10:00 am followed by Johnson and Wales (N.C.) at 2:00 p.m.
