SALEM, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team made the short trip west to Salem to face Roanoke in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon. The WildCats trailed only by 2-1 but the host Maroons tallied three straight scores to win 5-1.
The WildCats drop to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the ODAC. RC improves to 7-1-1 and 1-0-1 in the conference.
Roanoke led 2-0 in the first 14 minutes of the first half. The WildCats were able to cut the Maroon lead in half as Makenzie Collins (Roanoke, Va./Lord Botetourt) assisted Sara Bane (Blue Ridge,Va./Lord Botetourt) at the 24:11 mark to make it a 2-1 contest.
Bane would get another shot on frame in the 38th minute but was denied. Roanoke scored in the 39th minute to lead 3-1 at halftime.
The WildCats were held to four shots in the second half with one coming on frame. The Maroons scored in the 56th and 61st minute, respectively.
Roanoke led in total shots 20-8 and shots on goal 10-4. RC held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. There were two fouls called on both teams.
Maddie Friel (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) got the start for the WildCats in goal. She came up with five saves.
Randolph returns to action next Wednesday as they made the short trip across town to take on Lynchburg. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
