Women’s Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Meredith

RALEIGH, N.C.- The Randolph women's soccer team traveled down to North Carolina for a Friday night tilt with Meredith College. The teams were knotted at 1-1 for most of the second half but the host Avenging Angels tallied a late goal with under three minutes remaining to register a 2-1 victory.

The loss evens Randolph's record at 3-3. Meredith improves to 2-2 on the season.

The Avenging Angels attacked right away in the first half as they put up three shots in just over seven minutes of game time. They would get on the board in the 8th minute on a goal by Kalin Creech.

The WildCats would have just three total shots in the first half. They would make the third shot attempt count. With time winding down, Sterlyn Woodward (Banco, Va./Madison County) passed to Marisa Santacroce (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) near the front of the goal and she would tap it in on off the back of her foot as the horn sounded to tie the contest 1-1 at halftime.

The Randolph defense stood firm in the second half as it prevented any attempt by Meredith to go ahead. Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice) came up with two big saves. The Avenging Angels nearly struck in the 74th minute but Creech's shot glanced off the crossbar. With 2:50 left to play, Meredith got the game winner by Kaelin Sanderford who converted a deep shot over the outstretched hand of Bossi.

The Avenging Angels led in total shots 24-6 and 7-2 in shots on goal. Both teams had a pair of corner kicks.

Bossi finished with five saves for the 'Cats. Miranda Lutz came up two saves for the Avenging Angels.

Randolph will host Southern Virginia on Wednesday. Game time will be at 4:30 p.m.
