STAUNTON, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team traveled to Mary Baldwin on Saturday to face the Fighting Squirrels. The WildCats defeated MBU by the score of 2-1.
Mary Baldwin outshot Randolph 13-12 and 11-5 in shots on goal. The strong play of goalkeeper Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice) kept the WildCats in the game as she came away with a career-best 10 saves.
It was the 'Cats who struck first. Ella Meyers (Cross Junction, Va./James Woods) assisted Sara Bane (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) on her first goal of the game in the 36th minute to give visiting Randolph a 1-0 advantage.
The Fighting Squirrels were able to get one past Bossi just under 11 minutes into the second half as Annie Ammons scored. Bane scored her second goal of the afternoon in the 78th minute for what proved to be the game-winning score. The Randolph defense did not allow a Mary Baldwin shot in the final 12 minutes of game time.
Randolph returns home to face Averett this coming Wednesday, September 15. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
