WildCats Defeat Marlins 3-1 in Regular Season Finale

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team closed out it's abbreviated spring season on Friday night as it hosted Virginia Wesleyan at WildCat Stadium. The WildCats got goals from three different players as they defeated the Marlins 3-1.

The win improves the 'Cats overall record to 5-2-1. The Marlins drop to 1-5-2.

Randolph got on the board first in the 25th minute. Brandon Betts (Upper Marloboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) send a pass to the middle of the field to Noah Carney (Charleston, W.V./Homeschool) who deposited the ball into the back of the net to put the 'Cats ahead 1-0. The WildCats held their lead for the rest of the half going into the break.

In the second half, a foul on Carney gave Virginia Wesleyan a free kick in the 48th minute just outside of the goalie area. Evan Kastetter sent the ball over the WildCats' defense and past the outstretch arms of Randolph keeper Zach Miles (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) and in to knot the game at 1-1.

The game would remain tied until the 63rd minute. Ashton Poythress (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) headed the ball down to Evan Blow (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) who passed over to Wes Boor (Lovingston, Va./Nelson County) for the goal to put Randolph ahead 2-1.

The WildCats upped their lead in the 70th minute. Carney took a shot that bounced off the top of the crossbar and back down in the field of play where Tucker Leverone (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) was there to put back the rebound and make it a 3-1 contest.

Virginia Wesleyan had three shots on the goal for the remainder of the game but all three would be stopped by Miles. He played 53:56 of game time after relieving starting goalkeeper Zach Aylor (Vinton, Va./William Byrd).

Randolph outshot the Marlins 17-10 on the night with an 11-4 advantage in shots on frame. Corner kicks favored VWU 8-3.

Prior to the game, the team honored its four seniors. They were Blow, Kyle May (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook), Steve Martinez (Midlothian, Va./Manchester), and Wade Hall (Spotsylvania, Va./Courtland).

Randolph now waits to see where it will be seeded for the upcoming ODAC Tournament. Pairings will be announced following the conclusion of this weekend's games.
