LYNCHBURG, Va.- It was a battle between the top scoring offense in the ODAC and top defense as Randolph men's soccer hosted Randolph-Macon on Wednesday evening at WildCat Stadium. Neither team was able break through on the scoreboard as the game ended in a scoreless tie.
Randolph's overall record stands at 10-0-2 overall and 3-0-2 in the ODAC. Randolph-Macon is 7-2-3 and 2-0-3 in the conference.
Total shots favored Randolph 15-12. The Yellow Jackets, however, had the edge in shots on goal 9-7.
The WildCats were tested early as RM-C's leading scorer Penny Senior got off consecutive shots on goal that were saved by WildCat keeper Zach Aylor (Vinton, Va./William Byrd). The 'Cats upped their attack in the final 12 minutes of game time. Brandon John (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) had a shot that glanced off the left post and back on the field.
Randolph had its best look at goal in the 78th minute. Off a corner kick, the ball fell in front of Tucker Leverone (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) who fired a shot toward the net but the was ball was deflected by a Yellow Jacket defender.
In the second overtime, Randolph-Macon came close to pulling off the game winner. In the 106th minute, Aylor came up to defend Kodi Tannor and stopped the ball from going forward with a big save.
Aylor finished with nine saves on the night and tallied his third shutout of the season. His counterpart for Randolph-Macon, Adam Braithwaite, came away with six saves.
Randolph will next host Guilford this coming Saturday night. Game time is at 6:00 p.m.
