Women’s Basketball Falls to W&L 76-50

LYNCHBURG, Va.- Randolph women's basketball hosted Washington and Lee in their home finale on Wednesday night at the RAD Gym. The Generals won by the score of 76-50.

The WildCats shot close to 44% from the floor in the first quarter but the Generals were even better as they were good on 71.4% of their shots. W&L led 9-4 at the 6:26 mark but back-to-back three-point baskets by Yanessa Cabrera (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) and Amber Garrett (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) gave the WildCats a 10-9 advantage. Washington and Lee briefly took the lead back but a layup by Cabrera and another trey from Garrett put the 'Cats up 16-13. The Generals ended the quarter on a 16-4 run to go up 29-20.

W&L expanded its lead in the second quarter into double digits. The Generals would lead 44-28 at the break and had a comfortable lead in the second half as it stayed out in front of the WildCats.

Overall, Randolph was 18-of-61 (29.5%) from the floor and 7-of-22 (31.8%) from behind the three-point arc. W&L was 28-of-58 (48.3%) overall and 10-of-23 (43.5%) in three pointers. From the free throw line, the Generals converted 10-of-11 (90.9%) attempts.

Washington and Lee won the rebounding battle 46-27. Randolph only committed 11 turnovers compared to 19 for the Generals. The WildCats scored 15 points off of those turnovers while W&L scored eight. Randolph also came away with 11 steals to W&L's four.

Cabrera led the way for the WildCats with 12 points, five assists, and two steals. Garrett added 10 points, four assists, two rebounds, and two steals. In her final home game as a WildCat, Kalyn Banks (Clinton, Md./From the Heart Christian School) finished with eight points, seven rebounds, and a tied a career high with five steals.

Randolph travels to Guilford for its regular season finale on Saturday. Game time will be at 4:30 p.m.
