LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's basketball team hosted Guilford on Saturday at the RAD. The WildCats kept it close in the first quarter but a strong second quarter performance by the Quakers distanced themselves from their opponent as Guilford won 75-45.
Guilford led 14-7 with under four minutes to play in the first quarter until the 'Cats closed their deficit to a one-possession game. A jump shot by Yanessa Cabrera (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) and then a three from Audrey Antesberger (Scottsville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) made the score 14-12 at 3:01. Randolph trailed 18-16 at the end of the quarter.
It was still a one-possession game, 20-18, early in the second quarter but a 25-7 run by Guilford blew the contest open and the Quakers went into the locker room up 45-26.
GC added to its lead in the third quarter despite only outscoring the WildCats 9-6. The Quakers maintained their large advantage through the final quarter of play.
Guilford was 31-of-50 (62%) in field goal shooting and was a perfect 11-of-11 in the second quarter alone. Randolph finished 17-of-53 (32.1%)
Both teams were even in rebounds at 32. Randolph did have a 13-9 edge in second chance points.
Cabrera led with 12 points. Antesberger tied her season-high of eight points and also grabbed four rebounds to go with three steals. Alyssa Morroni (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) chipped in seven points and four rebounds.
Randolph hosts Roanoke this coming Wednesday. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
