Women’s Soccer Falls to Hornets 4-1

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team hosted Shenandoah in their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon at WildCat Stadium. The Hornets scored three straight times en route to a 4-1 victory.

Randolph's overall record falls to 4-2-2 overall. Shenandoah improves to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Despite a lightening delay that pushed back the start time, the game was played under largely overcast and humid conditions. The Hornets struck first just over seven minutes into the contest on a strike by Emma Librizzi.

Randolph would get the equalizer in the 14th minute. Sara Bane (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) blasted a shot into the upper right of the net and in to tie the game at 1-1.

The stalemate would last less than a minute and a half. The Hornets played a ball past the WildCat defense and Alison Spaziani got a shot past 'Cat goalkeeper Zoe Waring (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) and in to restore the lead back to SU 2-1. Shenandoah added to its lead with a goal in the 41st minute to go up 3-1 at the break.

Spaziani scored her second of the afternoon less than two minutes into the second half to put the visitors ahead 4-1.  The WildCat defense clamped down for the majority of the half as the score remained that way until the end.

Shenandoah had a sizable shot advantage at 39-6 with a 22-4 lead in shots on goal. Corner kicks were in the Hornets favor 12-3.

Waring had a career-high 18 saves in goal for Randolph. Hornet goalie Emilie Smith stopped three shots.

Randolph returns to ODAC play next Saturday when it hosts Eastern Mennonite. Game time will be at 2:00 p.m.
