Bane Sets Game Record for Goals in Randolph’s 7-3 Win over Averett

LYNCHBURG, Va.- Junior Sara Bane (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) put on an offensive show for the Randolph women's soccer team as they hosted Averett on Wednesday afternoon at WildCat Stadium. Bane netted five goals for the WildCats as they defeated the Cougars 7-3.

The five goals are not only a personal high for Bane but sets a new program record for most goals scored by an individual in a game. It bests the record of four that was last done September 11, 2008 by Karema Moheisen against Mary Baldwin.

The win moves the 'Cats to 4-1-2 overall. Averett falls to 0-9.

Bane got her first score of the day less than nine minutes into the first half. Four minutes later, she scored again and then her third came just under 11 minutes later to give Randolph a 3-0 lead.

Averett cut it to 3-1 with a goal in the 37th minute by Venla Maata. Randolph got the goal back in the waning seconds of the half as Makenzie Collins (Roanoke, Va./Lord Botetourt) snuck in a shot into the net as the horn sounded to put the 'Cats ahead 4-1.

The Cougars halved their deficit to two at 58:44 as Adriana Perez scored the first of her two goals on the day to make it 4-2. Bane tallied her fourth and fifth goals in the 63rd and 68th minute, respectively, to up the WildCat advantage to 6-2. Hannah Overstreet (Bedford, Va./Liberty) gave the WildCats a 7-2 lead at 71:19. Perez netted her second score at 86:25 to complete the scoring.

Overall, the WildCats led the Cougars in total shots 31-12 and in shots on frame 16-10. Both teams recorded two corner kicks each.

Deaven Milam (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) got the start in goal for the 'Cats and finished with six saves. Morgann Dills had nine stops for Averett.

Randolph begins Old Dominion Athletic Conference play this Saturday as it welcomes Shenandoah to WildCat Stadium on WildCat Weekend. Game time will be at 3:30 p.m.
