LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team faced off against Johnson and Wales of Charlotte on Friday afternoon at WildCat Stadium. In a battle of two WildCat teams, it was Randolph who came out victorious with a 5-2 victory.
The wins lifts Randolph's record to 3-1-2 on the season. Johnson and Wales drops to 2-3-1.
The WildCats of Randolph were firmly in control from the beginning of the game. In the 11th minute, Sara Bane (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) got the 'Cats on the scoreboard for a 1-0 lead. Less than five minutes later, Bane scored again with an assist from Marisa Santacruce (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) as the Randolph lead upped to 2-0. Brook Ford (Buchanan, Va./James River) then got in on the action with a solo score in the 35th minute as the 'Cats led 3-0 at the break. It was her first career goal.
The Randolph lead got bigger in the second half as Sidney Keyes (Roanoke, Va./Lord Botetourt) scored the first goal of her career at 52:18. That advantage held for just about 30 minutes of game time when Ella Randall (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham) received a pass from Makenzie Collins (Roanoke, Va./Lord Botetourt) for her first career goal at 82:20.
JWU notched its first score at 84:44 by Jaedan Smith. JWU got its second goal of the day at 87:34 on a penalty kick by Lana Truese.
Goalkeeping duties were split between Zoe Waring (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) and Deaven Milam (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch). Waring got the start and picked up a save. Milam came in the second half and stopped two shots.
Randolph had a 16-7 edge in shots and doubled up JWU in shots on goal10-5. Both teams recorded two corner kicks each.
Randolph will host Averett next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
