WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- All it took was one goal and that was Randolph got as the women's soccer team took on Piedmont International on Thursday night. Sara Bane's (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) goal in the 14th minute held up for the 1-0 victory.
The WildCats improve to 2-1-1 on the season. The Bruins fall to 2-1-1.
The game was delayed almost an hour due to lightening in the area. The Bruins got a shot off less than eight minutes in that WildCat starting goalkeeper Zoe Waring (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) turned away. Bane had a shot go wide at 10:02 but banked one in a little over three minutes later from the left side of the net.
In the second half, Sidney Keyes (Roanoke, Va./Lord Botetourt) had a look at a score but her shot attempt hit the crossbar in the 56th minute. Her rebound off the bounce was saved by Bruins goalkeeper Erick Washburn.
Randolph had a 14-11 edge in total shots and 7-4 in shots on goal. There were four corner kicks with the 'Cats leading that category 3-1.
Waring recorded her third shutout of the season as she turned away four Piedmont shots. Washburn finished with six saves.
The 'Cats return to WildCat Stadium on Tuesday for the first of five straight home games. Randolph hosts William Peace at 7:00 p.m.
