Box Score DECATUR, Ga.- The Randolph women's soccer team started its 2019 season on Saturday down in Georgia as they took on Agnes Scott. Marisa Santacruce (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) tallied the only goal of the game early in the second half and it held up as the WildCats won 1-0.
Randolph attacked early in the first half with a pair of shots on frame. Both teams would register nine shots in total in the half as the game was scoreless at halftime.
In the second half, the WildCats nearly got on the scoreboard 46 seconds in but Sara Bane's (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) shot went off the post. In the 49th minute, Bane passed to Santacruce on the left side and she deposited the ball into the net to give the 'Cats the 1-0 lead.
The Randolph defense held the Scotties to just two shots on goal in the second half. Zoe Waring (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) was able to deny both opportunities as she finished with eight total saves on the afternoon.
The WildCats had a slight lead in total shots 19-16 and shots on goal 9-8. Corner kicks were in Randolph's favor 4-2.
The WIldCats continue their Georgia trip tomorrow as they travel to Macon to play Wesleyan. Game time is at 1:00 p.m.
