Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Randolph College men's lacrosse team fell to host and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Virginia Wesleyan University, 17-3, on Saturday afternoon at Birdsong Field.
The majority of the first quarter remained scoreless until Brett Pausic (Saluda, Va./Christchurch) found the back of the goal off a feed from Gage Tutko (Manassas, Va./Osbourn) with 3:20 remaining to put Randolph ahead, 1-0. As time ran down, the Marlins were scored with a minute left to make it a 1-all game heading into the second quarter.
Virginia Wesleyan managed to fend off the WildCats in the first half of the second period, securing a 3-1 score. However, Pausic would find the stick of Matthew Piascik (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) at the 4:16 mark to trim the deficit to 3-2 at intermission.
Coming out of the break, the Marlins outscored Randolph, 5-0, to surge ahead for an 8-2 total. Virginia Wesleyan continued to dominate the field throughout the fourth quarter, with Tutko squeezing in a goal for the WildCats to complete the final 17-3 tally.
In spite of the loss, the WildCats won 15-of-24 face-offs, with Alejandro Castillo (Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton) winning 9-of-14 face-offs for Randolph.
Pausic fired off seven shots for the WildCats, with six on target, while Prince Charles (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) recorded four shots, including three on goal, and won 6-of-8 face-offs. Evan Pausic (Saluda, Va./Christchurch) scooped up a team-high five ground balls while Corey Boswell (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) and Tate Smith (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) each picked up four.
Boswell played all 60 minutes in the crease, facing 33 shots and making 16 stops between the pipes.
Randolph drops to 3-7, 0-3 ODAC and are back home on Wednesday, April 3 at 7 p.m. when it hosts conference rival Roanoke College.
