Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Brett Pausic (Saluda, Va./Christchurch) scored twice for the WildCats as the Randolph College men's lacrosse team fell to visiting Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the Tigers shutting out the WildCats for a majority of the first quarter, Pausic landed Randolph on the scoreboard at the 2:42 mark off a feed from Prince Charles (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate), cutting Hampden-Sydney's lead to 6-1. However, a last minute goal by the Tigers increased their advantage to 7-1 heading into the second stanza.
The Tigers continued to increase their lead over the WildCats but were stopped short as Zach Early (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) found the back of the net with 8:55 remaining for a 10-2 game. Pausic continued the momentum 10 seconds later, adding his second goal off a feed from Gage Tutko to make it a 10-3 game and forcing Hampden-Sydney to call for a timeout on the field. Coming out of the break, the Tigers rally to put up two more goals for a 12-3 advantage at halftime.
Although Randolph fought hard in the second half, Hampden-Sydney managed to shut out the WildCats once again, outscoring Randolph 6-0 in the third quarter and 3-0 in the fourth period, to seal the final 21-3 win.
Pausic not only led the team with two goals but also fired off six shots for the WildCats with four on target while Charles recorded five shots to go along with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers. The senior midfielder also won 11-of-19 face-offs while Alejandro Castillo (Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton) won 4-of-7 face-offs for Randolph.
Junior goalie Corey Boswell (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) took the loss in goal, making 12 saves and facing 29 shots. William Doyle (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate) also shared time in the crease as the sophomore goalkeeper collected three saves and faced seven shots.
The WildCats drop to 2-4, 0-1 ODAC and head out on the road on Wednesday, March 20 when they play Averett University at 5 p.m.
