VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team battled with Virginia Wesleyan on the road at Foster Field on Saturday afternoon. In a defensive battle where there were just a total of 11 shots taken, the Marlins scored early in the first half and made it hold up as they defeated the WildCats 1-0.
Randolph sees its six-game winning streak snapped as it falls to 6-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the ODAC. The Marlins improve to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
The WildCat got a couple of off-target shots off in the first 16 minutes of play. The Marlins scored at 19:14 as Shaun Brooks assisted Scott Signorelli.
Randolph did not have shot on goal in the second half. Overall, Virginia Wesleyan edged out the 'Cats 6-5 in total shots with both teams getting two shots on frame.
Erick Cortez-Martinez (Winston-Salem, N.C./North Forsyth) stopped only one for Randolph in the net. His counterpart for the Marlins, Griffin Potter, finished with two saves.
The second half was a bit chippy with four cards given out in the last 18 minutes of play. Two yellows were assessed to Randolph with one red to both the WildCats and Marlins handed out.
Randolph returns to WildCat Stadium to host #5 Washington and Lee on Wednesday night. Game time will be at 6:00 p.m.
