WildCats Fall To Eagles 3-0

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's volleyball team hosted Bridgewater College on Saturday for its DIG Pink match. The Eagles won the match 3-0 (25-20, 25-9, 25-19).

The WildCats drop to 10-12 overall and 4-8 in the ODAC. BC improves to 20-4 and 8-2 in the conference.

The WildCats started the first set with back-to-back service aces by Taylor Webb (Nassawadox, Va./Northampton) to go ahead 2-0. Randolph pushed its lead to 7-4 and held a 9-8 lead before the Eagles came back to tie and eventually take the lead. With the set tied at 15-15, a 4-0 Eagle run staked the visitors to a 19-15 advantage. The 'Cats could not cut its deficit to less than four as BC won 25-20.

Bridgewater got up to a 9-3 lead in the second set. The lead continued to grow as BC easily claimed the set 25-9.

Much like the first set, Randolph notched the first two points of the third frame on a kill by Mackenzie Ambrose (Floyd, Va./Floyd County) and an Eagle attack error. Bridgewater used a 12-2 run to jump ahead 12-4 and the lead grew to 19-8. The WildCats rallied late to cut into their deficit to get to within five points of tying at 24-19 but a service error on Lindsey Taylor (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) gave Bridgewater the winning point to take the match.

Ambrose finished with a game-high 17 digs with Sam Verhaagen (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Christian) adding 14 and Kennedy Webb (Nassawadox, Va./Northampton)  11. Ambrose also led in kills with six. Maddie Gaus (Newport News, Va./Summit Christian Acad.) chipped in four and Lauren Morgan (Bedford, Va./Liberty) three.

With league play completed for Randolph, the WildCats sit just outside the ninth and final playoff spot. The WildCats travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to take on North Carolina Wesleyan next Friday at 5:00 p.m. The two schools last played each other on September 7 in Salem with the 'Cats winning 3-1.
