Men’s Soccer Falls to Roanoke 2-0

SALEM, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team traveled the short distance over to Salem to face #13 Roanoke on Wednesday night. It was a scoreless stalemate at halftime but the Maroons scored twice in the second half to come away with a 2-0 victory.

Randolph's record now stands at 7-6-1 overall and 2-3 in the ODAC. Roanoke moves to 12-0-2 and 4-0-1 in the conference.

The WildCats had three shots on frame in the first half that were turned away by Maroons starting goalkeeper Zach Behe. Randolph starting keeper Erick Cortez-Martinez (Winston-Salem, N.C./North Forsyth) turned back two shots as the teams were deadlocked at 0-0 at the break.

It was in the 62nd minute when Roanoke was granted a corner kick. The Maroons Tim Leuenberger came down with possession and sent a pass to Liam Camilleri who took a shot past Cortez-Martinez and in to put the home team ahead 1-0.

The 'Cats had two more scoring attempts come up but were denied by Behe. Camilleri would assist Isaac Wolf on the final goal of the contest at 86:18.

The shot total tipped in Roanoke's favor 11-10. The WildCats were able to get five on frame compared to four for the Maroons. Both teams had four corner kicks and 10 fouls each.

Cortez-Martinez finished with two saves on the evening. Behe had five saves to pick up the shutout.

The WildCats are idle this weekend and return to the pitch next Wednesday when they host Eastern Mennonite. Game time from Wildcats Stadium with be at 4:30 p.m.
