Women's Soccer Drops 5-1 ODAC Decision to Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team made a trip up to northern Virginia to play Shenandoah in ODAC action on Saturday. The game was tied early on but the host Hornets went ahead with two more scores in the first and a pair in the second half on their way to a 5-1 win over the WildCats.

The hosts struck right away 1:16 into the first half. Randolph was able to answer right back when Sara Bane (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) found Sam Hablas (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) to quickly knot the contest at 1-1.

Shenandoah made its way into the 'Cats zone but starting goalkeeper Zoe Waring (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) was able to come up with five saves. Randolph had shot opportunities by Hannah Overstreet (Bedford, Va./Liberty), Bane, and Hablas denied by Hornet keeper Emilie Smith.

SU's Abby Alexa broke the stalemate at 25:18 and later assisted Rebecca Collimore at 31:57 to give the Hornets a 3-1 advantage at the half. The Shenandoah lead grew to 4-1 1:11 into the second half. The final score of the game came at 61:50 by Maiya Pencile.

Shenandoah led in total shots 30-8. Seven of Randolph's eight shots came on frame. Corner kicks were closer as the Hornets had a 5-3 advantage.

Waring finished with nine saves in 68:20 of game time. Shelby Lutz (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) came in for the final 21:40 and stopped four SU shots.

Randolph goes to Johnson and Wales in North Carolina for a non-conference tilt on Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
