Bane's OT Goal Keeps Randolph Women Undefeated With 2-1 Win at Averett

DANVILLE, Va.- Sophomore Sara Bane (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) turned into the hero for the Randolph women's soccer team with a pair of goals against Averett on Wednesday night. Her second score in overtime lifted the WildCats to a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Cougars to keep the 'Cats undefeated.

It is Randolph's first 4-0 start since 2012. It is also the first victory over Averett since 1997.

Bane got things going quickly for Randolph just over four minutes into the contest. She ran up the middle and shot from the box to the right side of the goal for her third score of the season to give the WildCats a 1-0 lead.

The Randolph advantage held for just over seven minutes of game time until the Cougar's Thania Hernandez beat WildCat goalkeeper Zoe Waring (Chesapeake,Va./Hickory) to the far post and the game was tied at 1-1.

Randolph dominated in total shots with a 25-6 lead and totaled 12 on goal compared to four for Averett. Averett goalie Bailee Brown turned back nine shots in the net. Bane had 14 of Randolph's shots with nine on frame.

In overtime, Marle King (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) had a shot attempt saved by Brown at 90:45. Bane would get her opportunity seven and a half minutes later as she played the ball, slipped past an Averett defender, and blasted a shot over Brown's head for the game winner.

Waring finished with three saves for Randolph. Besides Brown, Averett also had a team save.

Randolph comes home to begin ODAC play against cross-city rival and #11 Lynchburg on Saturday for WildCat Weekend. Game time will be at 3:00 p.m.
