Men's Lacrosse Drops Tight Contest to Greensboro 9-7

GREENSBORO, N.C.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team travelled to North Carolina on Sunday to play the Pride of Greensboro. The contest was neck and neck throughout but the Pride scores two goals in the last eight minutes of play to win 9-7.

The WildCats trailed 3-1 after the first period of play. Randolph got to within one goal of tying the game up in the second period on goals by Brett Pausic (Saluda, Va./Christchruch) and Prince Charles (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate). The Pride tacked on a goal with 1:12 left but Pausic countered with his second goal of the day as the Pride led 5-4 at halftime.

Pauric carried the momentum into the third quarter as he found the back of the net off an assist from Kadri Hearns (Cumming, Ga./South Forsyth) to tie the game at 5-5 with 13:14 remaining. Hearns later scored with 9:12 showing on the game clock to give the WildCats their first lead of the afternoon 6-5. The Randolph advantage lasted for 2:30 of game time as Greensboro scored the tying goal with 6:42 remaining in the third period.

In the final quarter of play, the Pride went ahead 7-6 with 10:37 showing on the clock. Gage Tutko was able to tie the match up at 7-all on a goal with less than nine minutes remaining in regulation. A turnover on Jace Cornell gave possession to Greensboro and the Pride were able to move ahead on a goal by Victor Mehrens at 8:01. Mehrens scored again with 5:43 left.

Randolph could only get off one shot for the remainder of the quarter. Jack Dolan (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) had a look with 11 seconds left but it was turned away by Greensboro goalkeeper Stephen Tanner.

Pausic led the 'Cats with three goals. Charles added two scores. Hearns and Tutko both tallied one goal each.

Charles had 16 of Randolph's 33 ground balls. He also did well on faceoffs with 17-of-18 won. Matt Lindenbaum (Reisertown, Md./Franklin) stopped 10 shots in the net.

Randolph goes back to the Carolinas next Saturday when it plays Guilford. Game time will be at 1:00 p.m.
