Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va.- Eight different WildCats got into the scoring column as the Randolph women's lacrosse team defeated Sweet Briar 18-4 on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon. The 'Cats improve to 2-9 while the Vixens drop to 0-9.
Randolph got on the scoreboard 24 seconds into the game on a free position goal by Teagan Stanley (Lusby, Md./Homeschool). Hannah Bradley (Wye Mills, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) would give the WildCats a 2-0 lead just over a minute later on a free position goal of her own. The WildCats led 5-0 after just over five minutes of game time had elapsed.
The Vixens scored their first goal of the day with under 18 minutes remaining in the first half. Randolph would go on to outscore Sweet Briar 3-1 for the remainder of the period to lead 8-2 at halftime.
In the second half, Bradley caught fire as she scored three straight times to boost the WildCat advantage to 11-2 with 22:03 left to play. Bradley then assisted Stanley on her second goal of the contest while Rachel Buxton (Sterling, Va.) and Sarah Perry (Rock Mount, Va./Franklin County) connected with 17:46 remaining to up the 'Cat lead to 13-2. Randolph would go on to outscore the Vixens 5-2 for the remainder of the game.
Buxton and Bradley both tallied four goals. Bradley assisted on two while Buxton assisted on one goal. Perry finished with three goals and two assists for a five-point day. Stanley and Shannon McQuaid (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) both scored twice. Nicole Dorton (Alexandria, Va./J.E.B. Stuart), Maddie Peters (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett), and Anna Belliveau (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) also got into the scoring column. For Peters and Belliveau, it was their first collegiate goals. Chrissy Shackleford (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) had four saves in net.
Randolph had a 16-8 advantage in draw controls with Perry winning eight of them. Groundballs were in the WildCats' favor 17-9. Buxton led with four and also caused five turnovers.
The WildCats will face the Hornets of Lynchburg in a cross-city showdown on Tuesday night. Game time is at 6:00 p.m.
