Women's Lax Takes Down Hollins 17-2 on Senior Night

LYNCHBURG, Va.- An 8-0 run to end the first half broke open a close game as the Randolph women's lacrosse team defeated Hollins 17-2 on Tuesday night at WildCat Stadium. The win improves the 'Cats overall record to 3-10 while Hollins drops to 0-10.

Randolph got on the scoreboard just over six minutes into the first half as Rachel Buxton (Sterling, Va.) passed to Sarah Perry (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) for the goal. Just over a minute later, Nicole Dorton (Alexandria, Va./J.E.B. Stuart) scored off an assist from Hannah Bradley (Wye Mills, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) to give the WildCats a 2-0 lead.

Hollins made a game of it as Dorton turned the ball over to give the visitors possession. Mara Smith was able to take advantage as she shot the ball past Randolph goalie Chrissy Shackleford (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) and in to bring the score to 2-1 with 25:47 left in the period.

Randolph's big run carried over into the second half as the lead went up to 12-1. Smith scored again for Hollins at 21:46. The WildCats broke off five more goals to end the game.

Perry led the way for Randolph with five goals on the evening. Bradley added four scores. Teagan Stanley (Lusby, Md./Homeschool) tallied three goals with Dorton netting two. Anna Belliveau (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County), Tyrah Cobb-Davis (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), and Buxton all scored once. Dorton's six assists set a new WildCat record since the program was revitalized in 2010.

Buxton and Perry also scooped up five groundballs with Dorton adding four. Buxton caused three turnovers. Shackleford stopped nine shots in goal.

Prior to the start of the game, the team recognized its lone senior Belliveau. Katie Jones (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) was also acknowledged as she is graduating early.

The WildCats host #11 Washington and Lee this Friday. Game time from WildCat Stadium will be at 4:30 p.m.
