Box Score BREVARD, N.C. – The Randolph College men's lacrosse team opened its 2018 season with a 12-4 defeat at host Brevard College on Saturday evening.
The WildCats broke open scoring within the first 50 seconds of first quarter as first-year attacker Gage Tutko hit the back of the net, for his first collegiate goal, off a feed from Prince Charles to put Randolph ahead, 1-0.
However, the Tornados would start to gain momentum as Brevard scored twice within forty seconds to jump ahead, 2-1 before making it a 3-1 advantage at the 3:06 mark. The WildCats called for a timeout to regroup and as the opening quarter started to wind down, Kadri Hearns notched a last second goal to make it a 3-2 game.
Brevard extended its lead to 5-2 by halftime before firing off four goals in the third quarter for a 9-2 advantage. Another last second goal by Hearns placed the WildCats behind, 9-3, heading into the final quarter. Neither team could find the net for most for the fourth quarter until Brevard scored twice, bringing its advantage to 12-3. Charles would record the last goal for Randolph at the 1:23 mark for the final 12-4 tally.
Hearns' two goals and five shots led the WildCats, while Charles fired off four shots and picked up four ground balls. In their first collegiate appearances, Evan Pausic scooped up three ground balls while James Greenfield picked up two.
Matt Lindenbaum earned the loss in the crease, making seven stops. James Stumpo also made an appearance in net as the junior goalkeeper concluded the game with two saves.
The WildCats will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 21 when they host William Peace College at 7 p.m. in their home opener.
