Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's soccer team traveled to Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday afternoon to face the Royals in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match. EMU took a 2-0 lead midway through the first and held off the WildCats 2-1.
Randolph falls to 8-6 overall and 3-6 in the ODAC. The Royals improve to 6-7 and 4-5 in the conference.
Eastern Mennonite came out firing from the start of the game. WildCats goalie Zoe Waring (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) stopped a pair of shots in just over four minutes but a deflection of a third shot found its way to the Royals' Laura Rittenhouse, who passed to Rachel Sauder for the goal and gave the home team a 1-0 advantage. In the 23rd minute, Sauder sent a dangerous cross to Rittenhouse but the ball deflected off a WildCat defender and in for an own goal as EMU's lead went to 2-0.
The WildCats finally were able to break through at 28:53. Sam Hablas (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) dribbled in from left side and knocked the shot in for her fifth goal of the season to put the score at 2-1.
The Royals kept the 'Cats off balance for most of the second half. Randolph's only shots on goal came in the 63rd and 66th minutes, respectively.
EMU led in total shots 19-11 and had nine shots on frame compared to four for the WildCats. The Royals led in corner kicks 6-3.
Waring finished with seven saves on the day. Royal keeper Leah Wenger had three saves.
Randolph concludes its 2018 season this Saturday at home against Hollins on Senior Day. Game time from WildCat Stadium will be at 1:00 p.m.
