WildCats fall to Yellow Jackets

ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph College women's lacrosse team played Randolph-Macon College on Saturday.  The Yellow Jackets won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest 21-1.

R-MC jumped out to a quick lead, but Chrissy Shackleford made sure it would not grow early on.  She made two big saves, with the second one starting a break.  However, Randolph-Macon got the ball back and tallied.

Shackleford continued to play strong in net, and the WildCats were able to pull in several draw controls.  Leah Hughes, Teagan Stanley, and Kathy Butler were all able to corral one, while Nicole Dorton pulled down a pair.  However, the Yellow Jackets entered the half with 15-0 lead.

Shackleford kept up her strong goaltending in the second, as she stopped a couple of early shots.  But R-MC was able to find the back of the net three more times.  Dorton responded and came down with another draw control, but possession went back to the hosts.  However, Maddie Peters was able to grab it back, forcing a turnover, but it went back to Randolph-Macon, and the hosts were able to find the back of the cage.

Dorton pulled down the ensuing draw control, and sprinted down the field.  She was fouled, but forced her way near the net.  She ripped it home for the goal.  However, the Yellow Jackets would leave with the win.

Shackleford made eight saves in the game, continuing her lead among the ODAC leaderboard.  Peters forced two turnovers, and picked up three ground balls.  Gamble picked up two in the game, while Dorton finished with a game-high five draw controls.  Alicia Hsieh had five goals for R-MC (7-4 overall, 4-0 ODAC).

Randolph (2-9, 0-4) will return to the road for its next game.   However, the WildCats will have a short trip, traveling to Sweet Briar College (0-4) on Wednesday, for a 4 p.m. game.
