Randolph Falls in ODAC Opener

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women's lacrosse team played its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest of the season on Saturday night.  Lynchburg College won the game 16-1.

The Hornets were the first to get on the board, scoring off of the initial draw control.  However, Chrissy Shackleford made several big saves after that tally, which gave the WildCats a scoring opportunity.  LC stopped it and scored two quick goals.

Shackleford stopped three shots and Teagan Stanley caused a turnover in the ensuing minutes, but Lynchburg continued its burst.  However, after another save and a CT by Dana Cavallo, the WildCats answered.  Chelsea Marciniak dodged along the outside of the 12-meter before passing it to Cavallo on the goal line extended.  Cavallo drove along that line, spun through two defenders and was fouled.  While she was fouled she went top right, and scored for the 'Cats, waving off the foul.

Despite another stop by Shackleford and a caused turnover by Shannon McQuaid, the Hornets held a 12-1 advantage at the half.

In the second, the Randolph defense shined.  Stanley, Cavallo, Hannah Bradley, and Katie Jones all forced turnovers.  Those forced turnovers led to scoring opportunities, but Marciniak's shots were saved.  Lynchburg added to its lead despite the defense and play of Shackleford, leaving with the 16-1 win.

Shackleford made eight stops in the game and scooped up six ground balls.  Bradley and Cavallo each pulled in two, while Nicole Dorton corralled two draw controls.  Alicia Sandoval and Laura Meisner posted hat tricks for the Hornets (5-2 overall, 1-0 ODAC).

Randolph (1-6, 0-1) will play a nonconference game on Wednesday, traveling to Hollins University (1-7) for a 4:30 p.m. game.  HU is playing this season as an independent and will rejoin the ODAC at a later date.
