Dorton and Riccardi Each Score Twice as WildCats Fall
SALEM, VA – Nicole Dorton and Taylor Riccardi each fired home two goals on Saturday, but the Randolph College women's lacrosse team fell to Roanoke College 19-4 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The hosts jumped out to a quick lead in the first half. The Maroons put offensive pressure on the WildCats from the start of the game, scoring several goals in quick succession. Anna Belliveau made a nice stop soon after, which started a fast break, but Dana Cavallo's shot was stopped.
Roanoke went on another run, but the 'Cats started to gain momentum, especially in terms of draw controls. Erin Campbell won one, while Dorton pulled in three in a row. After her third, she came down on the offensive side of the ball, and fired her first of the game in the back of the cage. Katie Jones won the ensuing draw, and Riccardi scored her first of the game, right before halftime.
Roanoke tallied the first goal of the second half, but the WildCats defense stepped up shortly after. Ashton Ewers made three saves, while Taylor Gamble forced a turnover. The turnover led to Dorton sending in her second goal of the game. Dorton then pulled in the draw control immediately after. The offense worked well, and Riccardi finished her second of the game as well.
The defense continued to play well over the remaining minutes, as Gamble forced two more turnovers and Riccardi caused one herself. Ewers stopped four shots as well during that span.
Gamble also picked up four ground balls in the game, while Riccardi had two and added a draw control. Claire Feeney and Nicole Zelnik each tallied a hat trick for the Maroons (4-6 overall, 2-1 ODAC).
Randolph (2-8, 1-2) returns home this Wednesday for its final nonconference game of the season. The WildCats host Ferrum College (4-9) at 4 p.m.
