Randolph Women's Soccer gets First Win of the Season
RALEIGH, NC – The Randolph College women's team picked up its first victory of the season against William Peace University, winning 1-0 in a non-conference matchup on Sunday.
Both sides started the game quite aggressively and offensive minded as there was five total shots by both teams in the first 22 minutes of the game. Despite the attacking by the WildCats and Pacers the defenses on both sides were very solid and unwilling to give clean looks on goal.
The WildCats managed to strike first, scoring the game's first, and only goal. Devon Nowicki played a beautiful through ball to Sam Hablas who only had the keeper to beat and she made a nice side step move and kicked the ball in the net. It is the second game in a row that Hablas has scored.
In the 35th minute, the Pacers had its best scoring opportunity of the game as midfielder Garyson Kincaid ripped a shot from just outside the box that skimmed the top of the crossbar.
In the second half, William Peace continued its offensive minded attack taking four of its eight shots in this half. But the Randolph defense was very strong all evening allowing only two shots on goal.
WPU (1-2 overall) won five corner kicks during the game. Quinn-Lynn Bates made two saves in her first shutout of the year.
Randolph (1-1) will look to build off its first win on the season and carry this momentum into their next game on Wednesday night. The 'Cats play their home opener versus North Carolina Wesleyan, set to kick off at 6 p.m.
