WildCats Fall to Defending National Champions
LYNCHBURG, VA - The Randolph College women's soccer team fought valiantly as they dropped their second Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game to the fifth-ranked nationally Lynchburg College, 6-0 on Tuesday Night.
The Hornets came out assertive, taking six shots in the first nine minutes of the game, but Randolph did well to hold them off. Right before the nine-minute mark though, the Hornets scored the first goal of the game off a tough shot by Camille Bartley from the left side of the box that hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced into goal.
The WildCats responded to the goal well. Holding the high scoring Hornets scoreless for the rest of the first half. The Randolph defense was very solid for most of the game, making it difficult for LC to get off a lot of clean looks on goal. At the forefront of the WildCats defensive efforts were Erin McClelland and Kayla Kishbaugh.
The second half started similarly to the first half as the Hornets came out aggressive as they managed to create an early free kick in the 46th minute. Midfielder Jade Woll played the ball into the box off the set piece, and forward Hannah Olds finished it off. The Hornets added four more to its total in an 18-minute span, but the 'Cats remained resilient and did well to hold the Hornets scoreless for the final twenty minutes of the game.
Randolph pressed on, and almost scored in the 73rd minute when Megan Kruse got her foot on a bouncing ball at the edge of the box but it flew just wide right.
Randolph goalkeeper Stephanie Quirk added eight more saves to her save total for the season, 64, which tops the ODAC. Quinn-Lynn Bates made three saves after coming on in relief.
Morgan Singer finished with two goals and an assist for the Hornets (5-1 overrall, 2-0 ODAC).
Randolph (1-6-1, 0-2) returns to action Saturday. The 'Cats take on the Emory & Henry Wasps during Family Weekend, with kickoff coming at 1 p.m.
