Randolph Women's Soccer Falls in Season Opener
FERRUM, VA – The Randolph College women's soccer team dropped its season opener to Ferrum College 6-1 on Tuesday night in nonconference action.
The Panthers put the pressure on the WildCats early on, but Quinn-Lynn Bates made three consecutive saves to start the game off. FC broke through 14:52 with the first goal of the game, but Bates rose to the occasion, stopping the next three she saw. Ferrum went one for two over its final shots of the half, with Bates preventing another shot from entering the goal in the stanza.
The beginning of the second saw the WildCat defense keep the Panthers off the board. Bates made another stop, before Randolph earned two great chances. FC then scored three quick goals to seal the game.
Sam Hablas added a late goal for the 'Cats, but it would be to no avail.
Meghin Martin notched a hat-trick for Ferrum (1-0 overall) in the first game of the season. Bates finished the game with an impressive nine saves.
Randolph (0-1) will conclude its short two-game road trip on Sunday. The WildCats travel to William Peace University, with game time set for 5 p.m.
